Enrollment Information for the 2022-2023 School Year

In order to apply to PSPA, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a resident of the state of North Carolina at the time of application.
  • Kindergarten students must be five years old by August 31st of the year they apply

Do not apply if your child does not meet the criteria above. Your application will be removed.

** APPLICATIONS DO NOT ROLL OVER FROM YEAR TO YEAR; YOU MUST RE-APPLY EACH YEAR. THIS INCLUDES THOSE ON THE WAITLIST FROM THE PRIOR YEAR.

Existing PSPA Families (Sibling) Enrollment

Siblings of currently enrolled students receive preference in the lottery for the following year. Siblings will be placed prior to the public lottery so long as the sibling application is received by the published deadline for sibling applications. If there are more siblings than spaces open in the school, a lottery will be held for the siblings prior to the public lottery. The definition of a sibling according to current law includes half-siblings, step-siblings, and children residing in a family foster care home.

The sibling enrollment period for the 2022-2023 school year will be in November. If you miss the deadline for sibling priority enrollment, you can still apply for general enrollment.

New Families Who Wish to Apply for PSPA (General Enrollment)

Open Enrollment is designed to give all interested parents equal opportunity for their child to attend Pine Springs Preparatory Academy. During open enrollment, all applications get equal consideration regardless of date submitted. An application received at the end of open enrollment receives equal treatment to one received on the first day of open enrollment.

Following the close of open enrollment, if the number of applications exceeds the number of open seats, a random selection lottery determines acceptance. If the number of applications does not exceed the number of open seats, all applicants are accepted for their respective grades.

The open enrollment period for the 2021-2022 school year will be determined soon.

Public Lottery

Lotteries are open to the public, but families do not need to attend to accept their child’s seat if their number is chosen. Lotteries will be held for any grade in which the number of applications exceeds the number of openings. Names are randomly selected, and applicants are accepted based on the order in which they are selected. The lottery continues until all names are drawn. Applicants who are not accepted will be placed on a waiting list in the order their names were selected.

Applications Received After the Public Lottery

If you apply to PSPA after the deadline for the lottery, your child’s application will be time-stamped and added to the waitlist in the order that you applied. There is no lottery for applications received after the January 31st deadline.

Waiting Lists

It is not unusual for a small percentage of accepted students to select other options prior to the start of school. Openings created by opt-outs are filled by those on waiting lists. Do not become discouraged if your child is put on a waiting list. Openings can and do become available.
